What does Jesus’ death accomplish?

25 03 2016

Why did Jesus have to die? What does His death accomplish?

On this Good Friday, here’s a list of passages that you can read and reflect on to consider what we remember today and what it means to you personally.

Romans 3:23-25  Jesus is the sacrifice for our sin.

Romans 5:9  We are made right, saved from God’s wrath.

Ephesians 1:7  Jesus purchased our freedom and God forgave our sin.

Ephesians 2:13  We are brought close.

1 John 1:7  Cleanses us from sin.

Revelation 1:5  Frees us from sin.

Galatians 3:13-14  He was cursed so that we can be blessed.

1 Peter 2:21-25  Jesus carried our sin.

What makes Jesus unique that He can do this for us?

  • Hebrews 4:15 He was tempted in every way that we are and yet He lived without sin.
  • Colossians 1:13-23 Jesus was there before creation, sent by God for our salvation. Don’t drift.

“Jesus’ sacrificial death is God’s solution for humanity’s sin. He pays the penalty for our sin. He wants to wipe the slate clean and bring forgiveness.

What makes God’s gift of grace so costly is that Jesus paid for it with His life.

What  makes it powerful is that He came back from the dead – proving that He is the Son of God and showing that God accepted His sacrifice as payment for our sin.” – The Purple Book

Jesus’ death and resurrection were needed to free us from our sin, from certain punishment, and separation from God. Through it we are clean, free, and able to enjoy God in our live here and in an eternal Heaven.
