September 5 Bible reading

4 09 2018

Each day of the year I’ll post verses to read, with the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us, expressed through Jesus.

Please read the verses below, prayerfully consider them, and then my comments may be helpful after those moments.

September 5  Proverbs 21:27-31; 22:1-6  2 Corinthians 8:1-15  Isaiah 8:11-22; 9; 10:1-19

Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?

God cares about motives more than religious actions. Each person has been created by God. This is one reason why each person should be shown respect. Learning about who God is, and coming to an awareness of who you are in relationship to God will improve your health and your relationships. It will also bring a wealth (more than enough) of the things that matter most in life. Training your children in how to live will bring them guidance for a lifetime.

Macedonian believers found life-changing joy from relationship with Jesus. Out of this thanksgiving to God they sent money to those in need. A primarily Gentile church sent money to primarily Jewish church. They chose courageous generosity for a people group who had mistreated them. Paul encourages believers to give money of their own free will, in proportion to what they had and only out of joyful motive.

Prophecies of the Messiah are set in the call to God’s people that they live now in humble relationship with God, to live in a “passionate commitment”. God’s call to us now is much the same.
