October 25 Bible reading

24 10 2018

Each day of the year I’ll post verses to read, with the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us, expressed through Jesus.

Please read the verses below, prayerfully consider them, and then my comments may be helpful after those moments.

October 25  Psalm 119:97-104  2 Timothy 4  Jeremiah 51:15-64

What’s the plain simple truth of the verses you read?

Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?

What should you do about that truth?

The poet expresses real pleasure found in taking the Scripture as guidance from God, on how to live, following that guidance and discovering its benefits. Pleasure. It’s possible to experience pleasure by tasting the truth of what God has said.
Paul reminds Timothy of their directive to faithfully teach the Good News of Jesus, from the Scriptures, through careful preparation. This is of utmost importance. With a patient love, we should be generous with our lives and happy to give it for the purpose of God. We can know the same fulfillment that Paul writes about when we live for God’s purpose.
Jeremiah sings about the greatness of the one true living God, our creator. This God is all-powerful and worthy of the highest praise. The worship of anything else, as though it were most valuable is foolish. The living God is overflowing with faithful love.
