November 4 Bible reading

3 11 2018

Each day of the year I’ll post verses to read, with the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us, expressed through Jesus.

Please read the verses below, prayerfully consider them, and then my comments may be helpful after those moments.

November 4  Proverbs 26:23-28; 27:1-4  Hebrews 5:11-14; 6:1-12  Ezekiel 4; 5; 6

What’s the plain simple truth of the verses you read?

Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?

What should you do about that truth?

Deception may start small but always brings damage. People can bring great pain with their words. We should be careful with what we say.

We do not grow deeper in our understanding and stronger in our spiritual life simply because years pass. We will grow stronger and more spiritually mature by choosing a lifestyle of active learning. How we respond to the training made available to us by spiritual leaders makes a significant difference. Every believer should be able to explain the basics of repentance (turning away from selfishness and turning to Jesus), baptisms, Heaven & Hell, the laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead.

Through Ezekiel, God brings dramatic object lessons in illustration of how the people would see judgment of sin that they refused to repent of. God sought restoration. They people remained self-oriented. We must learn from this. Spiritual life brings peace and strength when we start with God as our source for all things. Seeking the will of God first is a “for best results” approach to this life.
