February 9  Proverbs 4:10-19  Matthew 26:31-46  Exodus 4; 5; 6:1-12

Please read the suggested passages, prayerfully consider them, and the questions below. My comments here may be helpful after those moments. The suggested daily reading is for the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us has been expressed through Jesus.

  • What’s the plain simple truth of the verses you read?
  • Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?
  • What should you do about that truth?

February 9  Proverbs 4:10-19  Matthew 26:31-46  Exodus 4; 5; 6:1-12

Proverbs 4:10-19  The guidance of God is most valuable. If we will get a hold on it and not let go, it will produce wisdom in us. This will help us live a healthy life in every way. It lays out a path before us. We should follow it instead of following the path of evildoers.

Matthew 26:31-46  Jesus prepared His followers for His death and resurrection, predicting specifics. Has anyone else done this and seen it come true? Only Jesus. He cared about His followers and that’s why He prepared them. As the time neared, Jesus was suffering stress and grief. He prayed, asking Father God to take the suffering away and yet Jesus submitted to the will of Father God. It was not easy. It was excruciating for Jesus. Will we choose to follow Jesus? Will we choose to follow His way of wisdom? Will we choose to submit to the will of God? These questions we see here.

Exodus 4; 5; 6:1-12  God hears the cry of suffering from the Hebrew people in brutal Egyptian slavery. God gives Moses purpose and specific instructions. Repeatedly Moses questions whether or not he is qualified to do what God is asking him to do. Moses and Aaron reveal God’s purpose to the Hebrew elders and put God’s call for freedom of the Hebrews before the Pharaoh. God’s identity and freedom call are rejected by Pharaoh. In turn, the Hebrews are punished. God reveals His name and covenant agreement with the Hebrew people. Discouraged, they all refuse to listen to God. Moses questions the whole mission. If God’s guidance is most valuable. We must treat it as such. Let’s listen to what God is saying. The benefits that are ultimately realized in the stories read today are unbelievably good! Not the least of which is the peace that comes from a healthy personal relationship with God.
