March 9  Proverbs 6:30-35  Mark 14:43-72  Leviticus 19; 20

Please read the suggested passages, prayerfully consider them, and the questions below. My comments here may be helpful after those moments. The suggested daily reading is for the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us has been expressed through Jesus.

  • What’s the plain simple truth of the verses you read?
  • Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?
  • What should you do about that truth?

March 9  Proverbs 6:30-35  Mark 14:43-72  Leviticus 19; 20

Proverbs 6:30-35  We read about the pain, brokenness, and results of sexual sin. There is wisdom for us to discover when we consider the outcome of infidelity. Our Creator designed us for a lifelong commitment of faithful love for our spouse. This is the best way to enjoy married life. Proverbs tells us that there are consequences for adultery.

Mark 14:43-72  Judas gave the religious leaders of Jerusalem the opportunity they were looking for. Pain and suffering are part of the story of Jesus. We see Jesus betrayed and arrested. They couldn’t find something to accuse Jesus of so they had to falsely accuse Him by twisting His words. Jesus confirms His identity as Messiah. This is the point of contention. It is a tipping point. It is the issue that triggered the plot to kill Jesus. He revealed Himself to be the Messiah. This should be most important to us. Peter remembers the way that Jesus predicted his betrayal. Peter weeps with remorse.

Leviticus 19; 20  God our Creator wants us to become more like Him. In Leviticus God calls His people to live their lives in a holy way, to that end. We should understand who we are and act like a child of God, with good stewardship, and respect for others. We must remember that God is the one who has delivered us. We should not live in ways that are selfish and focused only on this temporary natural life. We must be careful to only worship our Creator God. We should pay attention to God’s warning against spiritual prostitution, promiscuity in regards to what we worship.
