February 11 – Psalm 20, Matthew 26:69-75; 27:1-10, Exodus 9; 10

Please read the suggested passages, prayerfully consider them, and the questions below. My comments here may be helpful after those moments. The suggested daily reading is for the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking the next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us has been expressed through Jesus.

  • What’s the plain simple truth of the verses you read?
  • Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?
  • What should you do about that truth?

February 11 – Psalm 20, Matthew 26:69-75; 27:1-10, Exodus 9; 10

Psalm 20

May God help you when you’re in trouble. May you find personal fulfillment in your relationship with God. May you see God answer all your prayers. I have seen God respond to my calls for help. My boast is in the name of Yahweh God the One true Creator and Redeemer of all that we see. This is the nature of Psalm 20. What kind of things are you singing today?

Matthew 26:69-75; 27:1-10

As predicted Peter denies knowing Jesus. He was reminded of Jesus’ words, preparing him to repent and respond to this mistake. In contrast, when Judas realized his mistaken betrayal he went to the Jewish high council declaring the innocence of Jesus and then turned to despair. Judas did not believe that Jesus could restore him. Judas died by suicide. Belief in the identity of Jesus as Messiah was the deciding factor. I am so very thankful for the freedom I have, which came from Jesus at a heavy cost.

Exodus 9; 10

What a contrast between how God used Joseph to help Egyptians and how He uses Moses to judge them!  Many times God has proven that there is no one like Him. Supernatural signs and wonders have repeatedly been witnessed as to the sovereignty of Yahweh. We read an example of this in the plagues of livestock death, boils, hailstorm destruction, locust devastation, and three days of darkness. There was a record of public predictions and explanations of these terrors in proof of God’s control over the most powerful human kingdom of its time. It is our reasonable response to worship God.
