September 2 Bible reading

September 2  Psalm 105:1-11  2 Corinthians 5:11-21; 6:1-2  Isaiah 1; 2

Please read the suggested passages, prayerfully consider them, and the questions below. My comments here may be helpful after those moments. The suggested daily reading is for the purpose of reading through the whole Bible within a year.

Reading the Bible is helpful in taking the next steps to follow Jesus. It may not be easy and yet it can be rewarding. Digging into Scripture alongside people you know is a life-giving way to pursue answers together. We discover the love that God has for us has been expressed through Jesus.

  • What’s the plain simple truth of the verses you read?
  • Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you?
  • What should you do about that truth?

September 2  Psalm 105:1-11  2 Corinthians 5:11-21; 6:1-2  Isaiah 1; 2

Psalm 105:1-11

What do you believe God has done? The One who is the source of life is worthy of your best praise. Public thanksgiving is a reasonable response. The Israelites had recorded the directions God gave them, the promises God made them, and the miracles God gifted them. Through the generations, they recounted God’s faithfulness to them by telling their children these stories. Thanking God, praising His name, and singing are seen as part of drawing strength from a personal relationship with God.

2 Corinthians 5:11-21; 6:1-2

In Jesus, we find a new spiritual life. From it, we find a new purpose. We are now guided by the love of Jesus. This gives us the ability to choose to live for His purpose, in this world. It is why we help others find and follow Jesus. We are now the “ambassadors” of Jesus, through whom God makes an appeal to others. This truth brings a whole new sense of purpose to our lives. It means that it’s not all up to you. There is now an opportunity to be a part of something far bigger and more important than the challenges of this natural life.

Isaiah 1; 2

After hundreds of years with the Israelites turning away from the God who had miraculously provided for them, God speaks through the prophet Isaiah. God says that they no longer recognize Him, nor His actions in caring for them. God sees the pain that they have brought on themselves. God calls them to repent, and receive His cleansing, His relief from their guilt. A day will come when only the Lord will be exalted. The one true living God wants them to trust in Him.
